Barbara Geissler Stokes (BGS) was born in Germany and is the grand-niece of Erich Heckel, a well-known European painter who, along with Ernst Kirchner, founded “Die Bruecke.” This group became the nucleus of the German Expressionist Movement of the early 20th century.
BGS’ artistic career began in watercolors and figure painting, and has progressed down a number of paths spanning charcoal, watercolor, oil, acrylic and printmaking.
BGS’ current style incorporates vivid colors in abstracted representational forms and figures. Her innovative approach to painting has gained her access to many juried art shows, and her artwork has won a number of awards. Her paintings can be found hanging in a number of personal collections.
